Once upon a time, Amber Rose was solely known as the model with a shaved head who once dated Kanye West. Although she definitely had the A-list looks, there wasn’t much other information known about her. When the duo broke up in 2010, it was curious to see how Rose would parlay her 15 minutes of fame into a long-lasting career.
The model-turned-activist certainly isn’t a stranger to hard work. The New York Post reports that Rose began working as a stripper in her teens to help provide for her family after her parents’ divorce. « I was very young and I did what I had to, » she told Curve, adding, « It was a survival tactic. » Suddenly, Rose was discovered by a Def Jam scout in New York and asked to star in a music video. The rest, as they say, is history.
After calling it quits with West, Rose (a.k.a. Muva) decided to do whatever she could to keep the money flowing. « You know I met a lot of great people during this time when I was with homeboy [West] years ago, » she told Complex (via HelloGiggles). « I’m just gonna take the steps and find out how to be an entrepreneur and start my own businesses and companies. »
After years of building her empire and growing her family, let’s take a look inside Amber Rose’s new life today.
Amber Rose has a new man in her life
Amber Rose climbed the A-list with the high-profile men she dated — and she’s known to switch them as quickly as she changes up her ‘do these days. In fact, her fan base has even criticized her for it, something that happened when she revealed she was dating current beau Alexander « AE » Edwards in October 2018. According to Hollywood Life, Rose took to Instagram at the time to post a selfie with Edwards, causing some of her social media users to immediately clap back with messages like, « Amber Rose has a new man every time I open Instagram. »
It looks like Muva has had the last laugh, however, as it seems as though things couldn’t have been going better between her record exec flame and herself a year later. The duo welcomed a baby boy into their lives in October 2019, and engagement rumors had already been abuzz for months by then. Indeed, they appeared to still be madly in love, too. After Edwards debuted his permanent diamond grills that September, the model gushed on Instagram, « I’m Soooo gonna let him get me pregnant again. »
Giving birth for the second time was totally electric
A look inside Amber Rose’s new life shows her doing what she does best: being a mother. In addition to raising her son, Sebastian Taylor Thomaz, whom she welcomed into the world in 2013 with rapper Wiz Khalifa, she also announced the birth of her second son, Slash Electric Edwards, in October 2019.
Little Slash’s father, Alexander Edwards, immediately took to his role as dad in stride, posting a sweet photo of himself with his baby boy on Instagram with the adorable caption, « Thank u @amberrose for loving me so much that u put ur body thru it 2 bring my sun in2 the world. I could never be as strong as u. Slash a rockstar. » Even cuter? The record exec already knew how to be a great step-dad, too. As Rose shared on her Instagram Story at the time (via the Daily Mail), Edwards was busy entertaining Sebastian in the waiting room while she was in labor, playing numerous games of rock, paper, scissors.
As for the How to Be a Bad B**ch author’s relationship with her ex-husband? It turns out, they co-parent like pros. In a since-deleted Instagram post captured by People, Muva wrote, « Wiz and I are family and we will be family for the rest of our lives for Sebastian. We’ve been through hell and back … we are in a great place but we are very much still divorced and not together. »
Amber Rose has monetized Instagram like a champ
One of the many ways Amber Rose has continued to monetize her success is as an Instagram influencer. During an early 2019 chat with Van Lathan on his podcast, The Red Pill, the model revealed that she makes « probably like $2 million a year, just off Instagram » (via Metro). While the host seemed totally shocked at the high sum, Rose, who has an estimated net worth of $12 million, agreed she felt « blessed » that her cash flow comes in through « endorsement deals and stuff like that. »
Of course, like everything to do with the online world, Rose’s success hasn’t come without a few hiccups. While she was pregnant with her second son, the model still elected to promote Flat Tummy Co — a line of detox teas to help with bloating. This caused immediate internet backlash, in particular from actress Jameela Jamil. « FLAT TUMMY PRODUCTS FOR… PREGNANT WOMEN? Is this FDA approved? Are we… f**king… KIDDING? @US_FDA, » The Good Place star tweeted alongside a screenshot of Rose promoting the product. Jamil added, « So many women, with such big platforms, promoting such irresponsible f**ks**t, that it blows my mind. » Gulp.
In a since-deleted post (via the Evening Standard), Rose edited her original caption for the photo, writing, « This is not a detox tea — it’s specially designed to help reduce occasional nausea and support digestion during pregnancy. » Hmm, we’ll let you decide.
Muva Rose has created feminist campaigns
Amber Rose isn’t shy to speak her mind or promote body positivity and feminism — something that rang true when she launched SlutWalk in 2015. According to Time, the self-described neo-feminist started the annual rally as « a safe place for women to come, twerk, go topless or wear pasties, get to know each other as women and understand we’re sexual beings. We all have skeletons in our closets, and we’re all allowed to do whatever a man does because he doesn’t get judged for it. » Rose added, « It was just a lot of awareness, a lot of information [about safe sex, victim-blaming, and consent], getting women and men educated on the equality issues we deal with. »
However, the activist unfortunately announced the cancellation of SlutWalk in August 2019 due to « turmoil » in her life, per E! News. In a later-deleted Instagram post, Rose listed all of the horrible things former friends had done to her, explaining that she wanted to protect her « energy and peace. » The influencer continued, « I’m so happy God has blessed me with a New Baby and an Amazing Man to help me through all the turmoil. That’s why I’ve been laying so low during this pregnancy … no Toxicity will be tolerated over here only Positive vibes. F**k fake friends and their weirdo s**t. I’d rather just have my family and my team. »
Amber Rose: the talk show host
Always finding unique and quirky ways to remain on-brand and promote her personal type of feminism, Amber Rose launched her own talk show on VH1 back in 2016 called The Amber Rose Show.
Before the release of the series, the entrepreneur had a chat with Time, explaining, « Initially, I didn’t even think about having a talk show, but then I did my SlutWalk and I was like, man, it would be really cool to have a bigger platform to talk about these issues, being really sex-positive and unapologetic. Then I did a segment on The Doctors, a whole slut-shaming segment and Dr. Phil saw it and he was like, ‘You need your own show.' » Muva proudly went on to say, « That was almost a year and a half ago and we’ve been working on it ever since. I’m just so excited to have a voice on TV. It’s going to be about sex, relationships, obviously feminism, because I am a feminist. »
Unfortunately, the show only lasted nine episodes. However, Rose decided to pivot yet again years later, making the venture even more readily available to her fans — as a podcast.
She’s proven to be insightful when it comes to love, too
Those who follow Amber Rose know she isn’t afraid to help her fans out when it comes to relationship advice. Before launching her own series, the model proved she was flawless at offering insight on love when she took over the iconic Loveline franchise in 2016.
Initially a radio talk show that launched in 1983, Loveline operated by having listeners call in with their romantic dilemmas, then aided by hosts who were ready to solve whatever it was that plagued them. During the 1990s, the show peaked in its popularity in a televised format, with celebrity guests becoming the norm. As Vulture so succinctly put it, kids that didn’t have « the talk » with their parents would sneak a « portable radio into [their] bed at 10 p.m. on a school night to tune in. »
With Rose suddenly at the helm alongside Dr. Chris Donaghue, the program moved to a podcast format. « I don’t hold anything back, I’m not judgmental, and there’s really nothing that anyone can call in and say that I probably haven’t heard already, » Muva told Entertainment Tonight. « So, you know, call my show and I’m there with open arms! » Rose later realized she could combine her relationship advice with her own podcast in 2018, and launched The Amber Rose Show.
Amber Rose gives back to her fans
Considering she’s rolling in dough with all her various entrepreneurial pursuits, Amber Rose has decided to give back to those who made her a household name.
The model got creative as a philanthropist in the summer of 2018, when she launched a free Escapex app that’s « designed to empower women and help them fulfill their goals, » per Page Six. Sounds pretty perfect, right? While speaking about her fans, Rose revealed in a statement to the media outlet, « This gives me the opportunity to show them I see and hear them. » Using her own money, the activist announced her plan to fuel her fans’ business endeavors, pay their rent, and even help out with their tuition fees.
If that’s not all, the model wanted women to be empowered and have resources to find the same success she has. In her How to Be a Bad B**ch book, Rose set out to teach her fans how to become successful and make their own money. « I feel like I’m in a position to give advice to women because I’ve made all of these mistakes, » she previously explained to Time in 2015. « I am a mogul. I have a bunch of businesses, I’m now an actress, I’m an author … So if that doesn’t tell you that I am an entrepreneur, then I don’t know what does. »
Muva Rose had a message for her so-called ‘fake friends’
Clearly in a new chapter in her life, Amber Rose has cut some extremely close ties. The model was once BFFs with regular KarJenner feuder Blac Chyna, with the duo even in the talks to have their own reality TV show — something that mysteriously never happened. As TMZ previously predicted in 2015, it’s reportedly because simply weren’t friends anymore. Even more mysteriously, these two tabloid darlings stopped following each other on Instagram in late 2018. Hmm!
As of 2019, it looks like this supposed feud might still be going strong, as Rose heavily hinted at some beef during her pregnancy with Slash Electric. In a string of Instagram Stories shared that April, the entrepreneur revealed (via HipHollywood), « Funny how my phone blows up when I’m having pool parties and s**t is lit. But as soon as a b**ch is sick and pregnant it’s crickets … fake friends byeeeeeeeee. »
While Rose was burning bridges with some, she seemed to be rebuilding others — specifically mending her long-lasting feud with ex Kanye West’s wife, Kim Kardashian. « The thing is, me and Kim … we accept each other for who we are, and that’s the most important thing as women, » Muva previously dished to The Daily Beast. « It’s good that we understand who we both are, got all that s**t out on the table, and can just move on with our lives. »
Amber Rose is cool with her exes
Amber Rose doesn’t solely bury the hatchet with other female celebs, she’s also tried to keep things cool with her exes. As it turns out, she’s done a pretty good job at it, considering some of them still choose to gush about her! Rapper 21 Savage, for example, only had good things to say about Rose while speaking to The Breakfast Club in 2018: « Amber my dawg. She the coolest person ever. »
Another reason Rose may be « the coolest » ex ever? She was eventually able to forgive her two most high-profile exes, Wiz Khalifa and Kanye West. TMZ reported that she said as much during the first annual SlutWalk in 2015, during which the model tearfully told the crowd how hurt she was when West said he felt like he « had to take 30 showers » after they split, and when Khalifa referred to her as a stripper in one of his songs.
The reaction? Along with the applause from the crowd of supporters, Khalifa reportedly expressed guilt over the lyric. According to a source cited by Hollywood Life, « Wiz was extremely proud of her for putting her heart and soul into her SlutWalk campaign. He cried with her when she got on stage and recounted those awful comments he made about her … That ripped his heart out and he got teary-eyed for disrespecting his baby’s mother like that. »
She’s not afraid to get candid about politics
By now, it’s pretty much common knowledge that Amber Rose always speaks her mind. Another avenue she’s perhaps unsurprisingly totally open to chat about? Politics.
During an interview with Jesse Lee Peterson on The Fallen State in 2018, Rose did something totally bizarre — compared ex Kanye West to President Donald Trump. « When I first seen Trump on the podium and just kind of like running for president, I was like, ‘Oh my God, that is Kanye in a white man’s body.' » With Peterson clearly wanting more information, the model dished further. « Kanye’s the type of person that he loves art, and he loves the art in things, so I think that he appreciates the politics that Trump used in order to get in office. » She then made her most stirring statement about POTUS, declaring, « I think he’s a sexual predator … I feel bad for Melania. I want her to get a divorce and become an activist. »
This wasn’t the first time Rose called out Trump, either. Only two years prior, she had strong things to say about the then-presidential candidate’s « locker room talk, » as revealed in an interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle: « I want him to get in trouble for it because I cannot even count how many times a famous guy touched me inappropriately. Imagine this. Donald Trump comes and touches me inappropriately, right? … Who’s actually going to believe me? … That’s why I started SlutWalk. »
Amber Rose’s new life is all about looking after her health
Amber Rose’s new life isn’t all about basking in the benefits of her success, it’s also about looking after her health, no matter what the cost.
In an interview with People, the Louis Vuitton model opened up about having breast reduction surgery in 2018: « I was scared that I wouldn’t feel sexy anymore, but it got to the point where I literally was in pain. It was almost as if I had like a heavy backpack on my chest. » Considering her career started off based on her looks, the hesitation made sense. Rose added, « They weren’t implants or anything like that and so, my back was hurting me. There was times I would just walk and just stop and be like … it would kill me. And, so, at that point, I was like, this is more of like a health issue, where I have to get this done. »
Calling her new girls a « dream come true, » the activist gushed, « Now when I’m running out the door, I don’t have to search for the right bra to fit within the shirt or to match the color of the shirt, so, it doesn’t show and look gaudy. I can kind of just throw it on and I’m like, ‘This is amazing!' » Rose added, « I’ve been missing this my whole life. »
